Guided mountain hike Lauklines - Vasstinden (TNF 007)
Vasstinden (896 m above sea level) is the highest peak outside Kattfjordeidet on the island of Kvaløya. From the summit, there are wonderful views of the surrounding sea, northwards to the Ersfjord Pass and southwards to Senja and Lenvik. The hike is steep at the start, but does not provide other aerial challenges until you reach the top and look down into the valleys of Isdalen and Likdalen.
The route is indicated with markers the entire way. We start from Lauklines and follow a route, which soon leads to the actual ridge just south of Lauklines. It is steep to begin with, but flattens out when you reach Bærmarhaugen (approx. 150 m above sea level). After Bærmarhaugen, the ascent rises again, and it is an even and relatively steep climb up through the brush on the mountain ridge until it flattens out again at a height of approx. 440 m above sea level.
The path forks here and we turn right, which is the most common way to the summit of Vasstinden. Initially it is light terrain with only a gentle incline, but later is rocky and steeper again. At an altitude of approx. 650 m above sea level, the route head more left and follows the southern ridge in undulating and rocky terrain right to the summit. You can follow the same route on the descent.
The entire hike is on forest paths in alpine terrain and the first incline is relatively steep and hard. A good level of fitness is required to complete this hike.
As the weather can change quickly in Northern Norway, we recommend you bring waterproof jacket/trousers on all our hikes.
